How to fix an Ethernet internet connection that keeps disconnecting and reconnecting intermittently on PC
Published: 4 December 2020
I came across a rather odd problem on my father's PC, paticularly after a recent Windows update. The ethernet internet connection kept disconnecting at random intervals, and after a few seconds it would reconnect. This was particularly frustrating if you are in the middle of browsing the internet.
Luckily I came across a fix that seemed to work:
Instructions: How to fix an Ethernet internet connection that keeps disconnecting and reconnecting intermittently on PC
- Navigate to Device Manager
Go to Device Manager by clicking on the Windows symbol at the bottom left of your screen and type into the search box Device Manager. - When you are within Device Manager click on Network Adapters.
- Right click on your Network Adapter - it usually starts with Realtek (mine is Realtek PCle FE Family controller)
- Right click on Properties, and choose Advanced.
- Under the Property heading click on Speed & Duplex
- Under Value you will probably see it set to Auto Negotiation, change it to 100 Mbps Half Duplex
- Click OK, and close Device Manager
Then hopefully your issue should now be fixed!
